| Life has been so busy for me I have not had time to repost despite the email I received from PK telling me it was almost October waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back when...Haha. Interesting stuff goin on in the Student Senate, I helped defeat legislation that would have taken away our chaplain. Every meeting we have a chaplain who gives us a devotion and prayer before starting...Made lots of enemies after speaking out against that bill, but oh well. Without God we're nothing anyway and besides in the secular view of things they were arguing it took up too much time and business less efficient as well as it was a Christian chaplain. Few things wrong with this. One, the devotion and prayer takes up about a minute, sometimes two minutes of our time, so that's a bogus argument. It has no effect on our efficiency of business. Two, we don't have it anywhere in our Senate codes that says the chaplain has to be of any religion, it just happens to be a Christian chaplain every time. This attack on Christianity nationwide has got to end or we're all going to wind up screwed in the end...
RHA Senate and the CCA are kinda chill. Not much on the national scene with CCA except that I am now the National Vice Chairman...I guess it's OK...It means though that I'm now National Vice Chairman, Southeast Chairman, and South Carolina State Chairman. Good thing is my position as National Vice Chairman is merely symbolic and I have my work cut out for me as Southeast Chairman because all I'm doing is checking up on the other southeast state chairs. So, the only work I even do is as state chairman. I got a job on another campaign for next year. I'll be part of Eric Bedingfield's staff as he runs for Dan Tripp's seat (Dan's steppin down this year). So that means I'm working on Bruce's re-election campaign and Eric's campaign, but that's all good because the districts are right next to each other so no traveling or anything for me. Speaking of our now Statesman Bannister, I got a job with him in second semester when the General Assembly convenes in January.
Flag football team went 2-2 in the regular season, finished 3-3 overall. We won our first playoff game by forfeit since the team didn't show. There were 20 teams in the playoff bracket for our league and we were ranked 13th so we didn't get a bye (the first 12 get a first week bye). That meant though, that we had to play the #1 team in the 2nd round. This team was unreal...They had their own coach, I kid you not. Come on people, this is intramural flag football, back off! We lost of course to the New England Patriots it seemed...42-8. It was 26-8 at halftime and you play with a 35 point mercy rule. We were the first team all year to even score on these guys (got the 2 pt. conversion) much less play a FULL game with them without using the mercy rule (even if they did beat us by 34 pts). We had the ball first in the first half and drove real well until our QB threw a pick and then the whole game went downhill...Not even Calvin Parks with all his speed and talent could help us out, they stopped him pretty good. Calvin is gonna try to walk-on the Carolina team by the way. That's why he transferred in from Mars Hill College.
How bout those Gamecocks? Been a good Fall really. White Sox win the World Series, the Panthers are 6-2 and tied with Atlanta for first in the NFC South right now, the Gators are 6-2 and second in the SEC East and of course the Carolina Gamecocks are 6-3. They've won a school record four straight SEC games after falling 0-3 their first three SEC games to Georgia, Bama, and Auburn all who have a combined record of 24-2. This is a Carolina team that was demoralized, talent depleted, and written off by everyone before the season began and even more so after losing their first three SEC games to those powerhouse teams. Spurrier has done an incredible job getting them to where they are and where they are is a good position to upset Florida, finish off a struggling Clemson team and finish the season 8-3 (5-3 in the SEC). Can't get your hopes high though because you know how it is in Gamecock country, the Cocks always break your hearts (that was before Spurrier and their amazing NIT win last year against St. Jospeh's, but still)...Interesting to see how it will all play out. I had predicted Carolina would finish the season 6-5 (4-4) and go to a bowl game. I'd like to be wrong this time...If they can finish 8-3 (5-3) this would have to go down as probably the greatest or one of the greatest seasons in Gamecock history. Spurrier doesn't even have the players he needs for his offense save Blake Mitchell and Sidney Rice and look at how the offense is producing! Give 'em about two more years and I think Carolina could be a real contender for an SEC East title. You have not only Mitchell, Syvelle, Rice, McKinley, and Davis in two years, but you're going to have a host of other underclassmen who will fit Spurrier's offenseivle mold play...It's looking good in Columbia...
| Yeah, so I was reading this book for my Islamic Civilization class...Ah forget it, I'll get ticked and just have a huge rant and crap...Anyway, incredibly busy, as always you know. Working on the Bannister campaign, doing CCA work...Ah, so much. The job as state chairman is crazy, but I love it. Student Senate is comin up, classes aren't bad, but they are gonna require A TON of reading. That's about it for now... | | |
| Dang it I ain't got time for all this stuff...Summer is supposed to be a time where you chill with your friends, relax, have a job, and take it easy. Well, as you all know I lost a lot of friends because a stupid fiasco months back. The only friends I have that have stuck with me all these years are the guys and gals from Cross-Country/Track and church man, but not much time to hang out because yes, I do have a job...Actually two. I work for my uncle in contracting and do some stuff for the Mauldin Rec. Dept. I ain't takin it easy, that's for sure...
I got back from D.C. early right? Long story, ask me bout it sometime if you want to know, but anyway...I didn't understand why that seemed so awesome and full of promise and then just completely fell through while I was up there. I found out why when I got back. Hope Community Church, a church ours helped start years ago, was starting up a kids program and Pastor Kenny sent Chris and I over there to help start it and run the kids church this summer. It had never occurred to me that one of the reasons why I came back home was to do this kids church. Chris and I were in PK's office one night goin over our stuff real late after youth service for Sunday morning when he just suddenly stopped everything he was doing and said "You know, we weren't even plannin on being here this summer. I was supposed to be in Lakeland helpin a church there and you were supposed to be in D.C."...God works in pretty interesting ways doesn't He? The kids service is a blast, we're all having fun and the kids are learning and having a great time. It's teaching me a lot, especially about ministry because there is no break from that...Chris never goes home, he practically lives at church and whenever I'm not workin for my uncle, I'm over there at the church workin on our stuff for Sunday or at Hope setting up. I wouldn't stop it for anything though! Our first Sunday we had only three kids...The next Sunday, after goin out to the neighborhoods knockin on doors and stuff, we had eighteen!!!! Right now with vacations and guests comin in and out checking out this new kids church, we're averaging about sixteen kids a service which is up from their normal average of about twelve...For those of you not good at statistics, having about an average of four kids more than normal is TREMENDOUS!!! We're plannin a kids crusade right now for the end of July! We may need YOUR HELP, so PLEASE if we do and you can answer that call, help out! These kids come from homes without much of anything and many have parents who will never set foot in a church, but they want their kids there. Those kids could possibly reach their parents at some point!!!! Please help out if you can at all!!! Your world may not have any room for these kids and maybe they won't mean much to you, but I promise you to these kids, you really are their world because by helping you're showing you care and that's something they don't see often.
| Well, I'm in D.C...It's OK, definitely not what I had expected, however. Intering with the NRSC is interesting, but as of now I feel they over-advertised themselves because I'm not doing really a whole lot, in fact I feel as if I'm wasting lots of money, so if I'm going to just be doing this stuff the whole time, I'm going to try to leave a month early if that's possible so I don't waste any more money. We'll have to see...Anyway, interesting townhouse I'm stayin at, really cool how it's just down the street from the Capitol, in fact it's less than a minute by walking. The church I go to here, the worship leader his name is Harrison and he's one of the RA's I know at school's brother which is quite cool, is very good, lot like A/G in fact the pastor was in the A/G. Mavs lost the first game of the state title series to Stratford in a rematch of last year's title series in which we swept Stratford two games to none, but that's OK because in 2000 when we won state (and finished third in region like this year) we lost the first game and then won the title by winning the final two games of the series. All good. Anyway, I will post around later, hard to get to it all right now so much going on. I took a job as the State Coordinator for The Caucus for Conservative Action. This is a really cool group, aimed soley at campaigns, so I have lots of work to do this year, it'll be fun. | | |
| Yeah, so definitely don't have much time for this thing anymore so those of you who have nothing better to do than to go around and read this thing over and over, I'm not gonna be writin in it everyday anymore. So this school year ends with the Student Senate adjourning until September, busy time at the lobbyist firm I work for, traveling all across the state to watch my brother play in his final playoff games of high school (gameS cuz they keep winning, which is a good thing since no AAAA team has ever won back-to-back state titles since 1978)...So apparently people aren't still leaving me alone with this stupid Laura thing. You would think that after three months, folks would just screw it and let it all go...Nope, more bashing me from the same people and even some new people who haven't a clue who I even am, but feel the need to continue doing so anyway...It's gettin just a bit out of hand and ridiculous (note the extreme sarcasm). The good thing about it, I don't see these people for two months gauranteed since I'll be in D.C. with the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC)...Yeah, I got the internship so that will be awesome, get to work with Elizabeth Dole, Rick Santorum, our own SC Senators (but I know those guys already), Bill Frist...Fun stuff in D.C. lies ahead, or so I hope. The position I got is the top intern position as far as I know, I assist Elizabeth Dole in her things because she is the chair of the NRSC, so that's always good. Student Senate here at USC has been interesting, but when we get back from the summer and reconvene in September it will be really interesting...Just have to wait and see I guess now won't you? Last day with my lobbyist firm is this week and I don't think I want to be a lobbyist ever...They compromise too much, I mean more than what I have seen politicians and lawyers do, so that completely turns me off. I don't want to be in a daily situation to compromise ethics...Touring the state of SC right now as I watch as many playoff games as possible Adam and them are playing in before I go to D.C. Mauldin is 23-6 right now and even though we have fourteen returning starters and didn't win our region folks still don't believe we can win state. It's OK because last year they said we'd go two and out in the Upper State round and we wound up being Upper State champions and then everyone said we'd get swept by Stratford in the state title game, well we were the ones doing the sweeping winning the first two games of a three game series to take the title. It's not a position our team is unfamiliar with and they like being the underdogs and seeing everyone have their attention on teams like Dorman, Stratford, and Lexington who are supposed to win it all. White Knoll, the team we beat in the opening round of the playoffs last Thursday was supposed to "kill" us and win the district...We beat them 8-1 and your man Bullard hit a SHOT to left field and closed the game out hitting 92 mph at the end. We beat Northwestern, another team we were supposed to lose to 8-2, Adam had two RBI in that game and closed it out again. So, if we win Wednesday we are District 3 champs en route to the Upper State bracket. No one thought we'd make it to even that this year...Unreal how defending state champions with a record of 23-6 aren't given the time of the day in the playoffs...So with that said...The summer looks interesting, get back in July and I should be doing a lot of baseball stuff for a job with Mr. Barwick (yeah!) so that means I won't have to work at Belk (DEFINTE YEAH!)...Jim DeMint intern awaits me hopefully in the fall and Caucus for Conservative Action, a conservative grassroots group targeting campaigns of conservative candidates is going to talk to me about being the State Coordinator for South Carolina and my first task as that would be to start up organizations all across the state at colleges, right now only Clemson has one. So pretty cool stuff...Anyway, there you go this should be good enough for you. CHICAGO WHITE SOX ARE 15-4 THEIR BEST START IN THEIR 100+ YEAR HISTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO SOX!!!!! | | |
